A new website created by Propublica provides a nice and easy way to see aggregate stimulus dollars committed and spent by government agencies. The site, updated weekly, shows the dollars spent, dollars in process, dollars left to spend, total dollars allocated, and percentage spent for all key agencies. Here are a few highlights:
- The Department of Justice has only spent 17% of the $4 billion allocated. Another 34% is currently in the works.
- The Department of Defense has spent less than 1% of the $7.4 billion allocated.
- The Department of Homeland Security has spent less than 3% of its $2.75 billion allocation.
- The Department of Commerce has (ironically) spent less than 6% of its $7.9 billion stimulus money.
The site is helpful in following high-level expenditure activity through the pipeline, though contract details are not provided.
